Filing for election to the school boards in Camden and Chowan counties begins in the next week and at least one incumbent won’t be seeking re-election.
Glorius Elliott, whose at-large seat on the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education is up for election this fall, has indicated she will not seek another term.
Filing for four of the seven seats on the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education starts Friday and ends Friday, July 27.
Besides Elliott’s seat, other seats up for election include the District 1 Seat 2 held by Jean Bunch; the District 2 Seat 2 held by Ricky Browder; and the District 3 Seat 1 held by Gil Burroughs.
In Camden, filing for three open school board seats begins Monday, July 2, and ends on Tuesday, July 31.
Up for re-election are board members Jason Banks, Sissy Aydlett and Chris Wilson.
Banks said earlier this year he plans to seek re-election.
Wilson said Friday he had not yet made up his mind about seeking re-election.
Aydlett could not be reached for comment Friday.
The incumbents could face a challenger.
Chris Purcell, a local business owner, told a gathering of Republicans earlier his year he plans to file for a seat on the Camden Board of Education.
In Camden, candidates run at large and the top three vote-getters in this fall’s election will be elected.
