Her fingers work back and forth to create distinct designs in patterns of colors.

Debbie Zimmerman will display her jewelry at the 59th Albemarle Craftsman’s Fair on Oct. 27-29 at Knobbs Creek Recreation Center.

Zimmerman describes her work as “very unique” and “personal.”

As a new member of the Albemarle Craftsman's Guild, this will be the first time Zimmerman has participated in the fair.

The Guild requires members to demonstrate their crafts at their booths during the fair, and Zimmerman is looking forward to demonstrating her art of bead weaving.

Zimmerman utilizes small looms and stitching techniques like the peyote stitch.

“I think it is therapeutic,” said Zimmerman.

Whether she is watching television, sitting at her desk or riding in a car, Zimmerman is able to produce her craft. Depending on the particular piece she is crafting, Zimmerman may spend three to eight hours to complete a finished product.

Zimmerman plans to display bracelets, necklaces and earrings at her booth. Zimmerman said she incorporates the “best quality” materials to create her jewelry.

Zimmerman will share a booth with fellow Albemarle Craftsman’s Guild member, Linda Robinsonj.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” said Zimmerman.

Zimmerman said she first started bead weaving after cross stitching and knitting.

“I was looking for something to do,” said Zimmerman. “I picked up a kit in a store, and it turned into something major.”

As her passion for the craft grew, Zimmerman decided to open a store. Zimmerman owns The Bead Spot on Water Street in Elizabeth City. With a large assortment of beads and materials, Zimmerman is able to provide her customers with a variety to use in their own creations. Zimmerman said she offers instructional classes by request.

“I really like Elizabeth City and being downtown,” said Zimmerman.

Zimmerman maintains a Facebook page for The Bead Spot and website at http://www.thebeadspot.com/.

Originally from Chesapeake, Zimmerman lives in Shiloh.

Zimmerman enjoys spending time with her family.
