As temperatures warm and the sun casts its rays down on the Pasquotank River, Danielle Toupin encourages people to take a stroll through the Downtown Waterfront Market in Elizabeth City.

The Downtown Waterfront Market reopens for its 10th season at Mariners’ Wharf Park on Saturday. According to Toupin, the market’s coordinator the past two years, the theme for Saturday’s anniversary will be “Cheers to 10 years.”

“I think it is a great outdoor activity,” said Toupin. “People can go with their children and pets.”

Toupin said vendors will be offering for sale “handmade, homemade and homegrown” items. Locally grown produce, herbs, arts and crafts, baked goods, and doggie treats are some of the items that vendors will have for sale.

Arts of the Albemarle’s The Center Players will also be showcasing skits from their upcoming production of the musical comedy “Once Upon a Mattress,” Toupin said.

Music will be provided by DJ Rayfield Coston. Representatives from Albemarle Regional Health Services and N.C. Cooperative Extension will provide information about their services as well as serve non-alcoholic margaritas.

Toupin said she grew up participating in activities by the water. Toupin and her husband, Philip, decided to move from Massachusetts to Elizabeth City four years ago. They enjoy kayaking, boating and using their Jet Skis.

Toupin and her husband also enjoy spending time with their children: Melissa Randall, a morning news anchor for ABC6 News in Providence, R.I.; and Nicholas Toupin, technology director for Hopedale Public Schools in Hopedale, Mass.

A former executive assistant for the CVS Health Corporation, Toupin said one of the best aspects of her current position as market coordinator is meeting the vendors and the public.

The Downtown Waterfront Market will be open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday between May and October.

“Come out and stay a while,” said Toupin. “Enjoy the beautiful views.”
