For more than 30 years, Wendy Corcoran has worked with clients.

As a licensed massage and bodywork therapist, she says, “Touch can be healing.”

Originally from Wisconsin, Corcoran attended the Fuller School of Massage in Virginia. She previously owned a holistic day spa, but now offers massage therapy through her business, Wendy’s Holistic Traveling Massage.

Corcoran said one of the best aspects of her profession is being able to help people.

While Corcoran has practiced yoga for 45 years, her main focus is massage therapy. She first became interested in massage therapy after traveling to Japan, China, India, Thailand, Korea and the Philippines for two and a half years.

Corcoran, who now lives in Shiloh, said she has worked with at least 10,000 clients over more than three decades. To maintain her license, Corcoran completes at least 24 hours of continuing education every two years.

Corcoran travels with her own massage table and incorporates background spa music into her sessions with clients.

“It allows the mind to let go and relax,” Corcoran said.

She enjoys her work and finds it fulfilling.

“It’s an honor to be accepted and trusted and interface with a person,” she said.

Corcoran is organizing a Women’s Wellness Retreat that will be held July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the 51 House restaurant in Edenton.

In addition to Corcoran, contributors to the event will include Jan King Robinson, gentle and restorative yoga teacher and retired hospital administrator; Heidi Prewett, a yoga instructor; Gail Ward, a registered nurse and certified integrated nurse coach; Patti Mordecai, a yoga teacher; Angie Lamberson, a licensed dietitian, certified diabetes educator and certified integrative health coach; John Silver, an energy medicine healer and artist; Zacki Twiford, a pharmacist specializing in bioidentical hormone replacement therapy; and Susane Krueger, an artist.

“We are all excited,” Corcoran says of the retreat. “It was my vision. I wanted them to co-create with me.”

She said her goal for the event is to “help other people help themselves and be an inspiration to try something they have not tried before.”

The wellness retreat will also provide an opportunity “to ground ourselves in the moment,” she said.

Corcoran said she enjoys cooking “unusual foods.” She is married and has two golden retrievers.
