Whether it is a pair of statement earrings, a swing dress or leggings, Toni Corprew tries to help customers find their favorite fashions at Southern Twang Boutique in Elizabeth City.

Originally from Edenton, Corprew said her first experience in fashion was when she worked at the Polka-Dot Palm in her hometown.

Corprew, now 26, was a high school student at the time, and she discovered a fondness for marketing and creating store displays.

“I fell in love with the process,” Corprew said.

At age 19, Corprew started her own business, Southern Twang Boutique, in November 2012. The business started out online but after a great response, Corprew decided to expand and open a store in Edenton in December 2013.

Corprew said she called her business Southern Twang Boutique because she wanted a name that reflected both the area and North Carolina.

“Everybody has a little twang in their accents,” she said.

After Corprew got married, she and her husband, Michael, moved to Elizabeth City. Corprew decided to move her store to Elizabeth City in April 2017 and it is now located at 961 Oak Stump Road.

Corprew said she offers a variety of styles of clothing both at her store and online.

“We have lots of options and inventory,” she said.

Corprew said her clothing sizes range from small to 3X, and she “tries to keep everything under $50.”

Besides women’s clothing and accessories, Corprew sells baby items like blankets and bibs. An assortment of gifts like lotions are also available.

Corprew stocks her store with the latest trends by following the latest blogs, keeping a watch on Pinterest and soliciting feedback from her customers. Fall trends include leggings, prints and patterns, as well as olives and wine colors.

“Bell bottom jeans are coming back,” said Corprew.

Corprew said the best part of owning her own business is getting to know her customers and building relationships with them.

“I start to pick up on their tastes,” she said. “It helps when you know your customers.”

Corprew enjoys spending time with her husband and their 4-year-old daughter, Aubrielle.

Southern Twang Boutique is open Mondays through Fridays from 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and on Saturdays 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The store’s website address is https://www.southerntwang-boutique.com/.
