EDENTON — Police are investigating a shooting that left a man dead late Wednesday on East Church Street.

Officers discovered Ronald Taylor, 51, of 313 E. Church St., lying on the sidewalk at 215 E Church St., unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds at 11:20 p.m., said Police Chief Jay Fortenberry in a press release issued early Thursday morning.

Officers began CPR and Taylor was taken to Vidant Chowan hospital where he later died from his injuries. Fortenberry said this shooting does not appear to be random, and the victim may have known the offender.

Officers collected multiple shell casings at the scene and the Elizabeth City Police Department provided assistance with a K9 tracking dog, but a suspect has not been located at this time.

The NC State Bureau of Investigation is assisting in the investigation. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Edenton Police Department. Your information will be kept confidential. “We want your information, not your name,” Fortenberry said.
