A whirlpool forms in the flooded parking lot of the former Piggly Wiggly grocery store at Grice and McMorrine streets following heavy rain Sunday afternoon. Seen in the background is a car with water nearly to its windows. There were several cars stranded in high water in the Grice Street area Sunday. Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Management Coordinator Christy Saunders said there were reports of high water in several parts of the city, including Road Street near Walnut Street, Bartlet Avenue, and Walker Avenue. Several portions of Ehringhaus Street also had standing water on the outer lanes of the five-lane highway. Saunders noted heavy rainfall left the ground saturated before Sunday’s downpour, making the area more prone to flooding. However, she said she wasn’t aware of any roads in Pasquotank or Camden counties being rendered impassable Sunday.
