Story on Comey's testimony is incorrect
Sunday, June 18, 2017
Your article about the Comey firing was incorrect at best. I watched the testimony and never reached the conclusion that he was fired as a result of the Russia probe.
There were many reasons to fire Comey, many of which were supported by the Democrats, before they decided to support him for purely political reasons. I am sure that you took the headline from the mainstream media which has been up Trump’s rear end ever since he was elected. And your paper seems to be playing the same tune.
As you continue to run down all things Republican, more conservatives like me will drop their subscriptions. Then see how you do financially, appealing to less than half of the public.
Editor's note: The story cited by the writer is from The Associated Press. It was published in the June 9 edition of The Daily Advance under the headline: "Comey: Fired 'because of Russia probe.'" The AP story reports on testimony of former FBI Director James Comey during a hearing before the U.S. Senate intelligence committee, which is investigating Russian meddling in the U.S. elections.
As to the veracity of the story's reporting and headline, the facts rest on Comey's statements: "It's my judgment that I was fired because of the Russia investigation," Comey said. "I was fired, in some way, to change - or the endeavor was to change the way the Russia investigation was being conducted." To shorten the headline in The Daily Advance, the term "investigation" was changed to "probe."
