Why not a fruit, veggie eating contest instead?

I applaud the thought behind the National Night Out Against Crime event.

However I feel strongly that the organizers are sending the wrong message to children when they host a doughnut-eating contest. We Americans have bad eating habits and don’t exercise. Those two things combined cause most of us to be overweight.

If I may be allowed to kibitz, I suggest you fill small boxes with small pieces of fruit and vegetables. Blindfold the contestant and ask them to open the box and identify what they ate. The person who identifies the most wins. They also just ate healthily.
