Trump immigration critics seek return of 'catch and release'

Who is responsible for separating children from parents who have crossed the U.S. border illegally?

There is plenty of blame to go around. First, Bill Clinton’s policy in 1997 which prevented juveniles from staying with their parents who have been detained for unlawful entry into the country, even when seeking asylum.

Next, the parents themselves, and the courts and foolish policies created by the Obama administration, which incentivized more illegal border crossings and risked the lives of children, and, most egregiously, funded the drug cartels on our border. Judge Andrew Hansen, a federal judge, said in 2013, that Obama’s policy “completed the criminal mission of individuals who are violating border security of the United States, and encouraged illegals to place their minor children in perilous situations subject to the whims of evil individuals.”

Hansen listed the crimes committed by traffickers against immigrants who cross illegally, including assault, rape, murder, forced labor and prostitution. Funds paid to these traffickers by those who want to cross the border illegally directly finance the Mexican drug cartels. However, if you listen to the mainstream media, you would think President Trump, who is simply exercising his constitutional duty to enforce the laws, is to blame.

The point of this propaganda war is to force Trump to stop enforcing the law and return to “catch and release,” which allows those who cross the border illegally to disappear into the vast interior of our country until their court date, for which half do not appear. It is not President Trump who is responsible for this.
