Trump missed chance to fix error criticizing McCain's war service

Our current president missed an opportunity recently to admit a mistake and help heal an unnecessary wound. It was a perfect time, while our nation was celebrating the life of John McCain, to apologize for this ignorant comment: "He's not a war hero. He was a war hero because he was captured. I like people who weren't captured."
This from a man who went out of his way to ensure he would never have to serve in our country's military. A man who now, as our commander in chief, has the responsibility to recognize, support and defend all our American heroes currently in uniform, along with those retired and deceased.
Donald Trump is self-absorbed, incapable of admitting mistakes and routinely mocks and belittles others. Most of us would agree that type of behavior in any setting — our homes, schools or workplaces — is inappropriate. Why is it acceptable from the president of the United States?
