Elections officials help handicapped voters fulfill civic duty
Sunday, November 4, 2018
It is apparent that the 2018 election is extremely important. Speaking as a handicapped man, I want to communicate a sincere “thank you” to the election officials at our polling location in Hertford for putting a special emphasis on the services provided handicapped individuals exercising their civic responsibility. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease can make it difficult for me to stand in line and walk from one point to another.
Upon parking in the area for handicapped voter assistance, a representative from the Perquimans Board of Elections came to our vehicle, gathered information and returned with a mobile voting machine. I voted while sitting in my car!
Kudos to the election officials who made this service available for the handicapped citizens of Perquimans County and the helpful poll workers who make this valuable option a reality assisting me in fulfilling my civic responsibility. There really are no excuses for not making an effort to vote!
