Detention centers for migrants on border are national disgrace

A recent letter castigating U.S. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for calling border facilities “concentration camps” needs to refer to a dictionary before calling her reckless.

Merriman-Webster defines the words concentration camp as “a camp where persons (as prisoners of war, political prisoners, or refugees) are detained or confined.”

Ocasio-Cortez is correct. The concentration camps on our border are horrendous. At the detention center in Clint, Texas, there are no diapers for little ones; no soap to keep clean; no blankets; children are sleeping on cement floors; no baby food; children are taking care of toddlers; and medical care is poor. If the other camps were allowed inspectors what would they expose?

The United States has lost its humanity. This is not the way children or adults should be treated. We are all children of God, regardless of color or national origin. I am shamed by how our government is treating these detainees. It is a national disgrace.
