Alumni from P.W. Moore High School, a segregated school for African Americans until the late 1960s, include a number of community leaders. Here are some of their achievements:

— Major General Hawthorne Proctor – The 46th Quartermaster General of the U.S. Army, July 1999 - July 2001

— Mayor Bettie Jones Parker – mayor of the City of Elizabeth City

— J. Carlton Cole – Superior Court judge, N.C. First Judicial District

— Venita Newby Owens – Former director of health for Virginia Beach, Va

— Johnnie Walton – Former professional football player and Elizabeth City city councilor

— Cecil Perry – chairman of the Pasquotank County Commissioners

— Linwood Williams – retired Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools superintendent

— Katherine White Felton – retired human resources director for City of EC

— Billie Reid – State Farm Insurance Agency

— Dimples Armstrong – retired consultant, Connecticut Education Association, author of Anti-Klan curriculum for Connecticut

— Javon Brothers, author of Deadly Night in the Harbor of Hospitality
