Grand-opening celebrations at two local businesses and the 32nd annual Landmark Show and Competition will be among the featured events at tonight’s First Friday ArtWalk in Elizabeth City’s downtown.

Both True Images Salon, at 217 S. Poindexter Street, and Paradiso Roma Ristorante, at 35 Camden Causeway, will celebrate completion of recent renovation projects at the ArtWalk, which starts at 5 p.m. and continues until 7 p.m.

In addition, Arts of the Albemarle will host its Landmark Show and Competition at AoA’s The Center, with judging beginning at 4:45 p.m.

According to Elizabeth City Downtown Director Deborah Malenfant, 13 businesses are participating in this month’s ArtWalk, featuring works in art forms as diverse as pottery, jewelry, photography, pen and ink, whimsical, metalwork and quilting.

The ArtWalk will also feature two free kids’ yoga demonstrations at Body Kinect Wellness at 601 E. Main Street. The first will be at 5:30 p.m., the second at 6:30 p.m. Body Kinect will also host artists Lindsay Doughty, who works in pottery and lotions, and Debbie Sauls. An adult bullet journaling class will be held at Studio 511 at 112 S. McMorrine Street, starting at 6:30 p.m.

Malenfant said a new element at this month’s ArtWalk is the First Friday Feature Property Showcase. Each month a vacant storefront available for rent will be opened for visits and tours, she said. This month’s featured property is the former Friendly Wig Shop on Poindexter Street. The shop recently underwent restoration and its first level has been transformed into a commercial space.

Following the ArtWalk, two other downtown nightspots will host live entertainment. Chuck Hodges will perform acoustic music at Coasters Downtown Draught House, at 216 N.
