Where can you get in a round of golf, sample beers, wines and teas, eat dinner and then dance the night away, all in one day and all while supporting two community organizations?

All that and more is in store for attendees of College of The Albemarle Foundation’s T-Off and High Tea and then later, the League of Women Voters of Northeastern North Carolina’s Groovin’ with the Girls Dance.

Both events are scheduled for Friday. And tickets for both are available in advance.

The COA Foundation’s T-Off golf tournament and High Tea is a fundraiser for the nonprofit’s general scholarship fund.

Registration for the 18-hole golf tournament at the YMCA at the Pines begins at 10 a.m., with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. Participants can enjoy one-ounce pours of beer or wine at every hole and snacks prepared by COA’s Culinary Arts Program at every other hole. Area breweries and vineyards are providing the beer and wine.

The High Tea will begin at 2 p.m. Designed to accommodate 50 guests, the event will feature teas, muffins, scones and pastries provided by area businesses. The event also will feature a fashion show supported by 16 businesses. A dinner and an awards ceremony will follow. A silent auction will be held at 4 p.m., as the dinner and awards presentation begins. Organizers say more than $10,000 worth of merchandise has been donated for the auction.

Tickets for participating in the golf tournament are $500 for golf teams of four; $150 for single players. Tickets for just the High Tea are $50, while tickets for just the awards dinner are $25.

All tickets may be purchased at the foundation’s website: https://www.albemarle.edu/for-the-community/coa-foundation/annual-fundraiser/

The rain date for the T-Off and High Tea is Sept. 6.

Groovin’ with the Girls

Later on Friday, the League of Women Voters of Northeastern North Carolina will commemorate Women’s Equality Day by holding its Groovin’ with the Girls Dance from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Arts of the Albemarle’s The Center.

The dance will be held in advance of the national observance of Women’s Equality Day which occurs on Aug. 26. This year marks the 99th anniversary of passage of the 19th Amendment giving U.S. women the right to vote. Women’s Equality Day was first celebrated in 1971 following a resolution by Congress.

While the dance is called Groovin’ with the Girls, people of all genders are welcome, organizers say. Heavy appetizers catered by Island Breeze Grill will be available. Additional food will be provided by other local businesses and organizations. There will also be a cash bar.

DJ Bill Lauten will provide the music.

The League of Women Voters of Northeastern North Carolina has celebrated Women’s Equality Day each year since 2015. The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization operating in more than 700 communities. Organizers of “Groovin’ for the Girls Dance are Savannah Nash, Joan Ellis and Terra Fox.

Tickets to the event are $25 for adults; $10 for children ages 5-12; and free for kids younger than 5.

To purchase tickets in advance visit the organization’s website: www.lwvnenc.org/events or call 339-6478. All proceeds will benefit the League of Women Voters of Northeastern North Carolina.
