GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) — A North Carolina teenager has admitted in court to his role in the death of a 74-year-old man who was beaten and sprayed with a fire extinguisher in 2015.
The News & Record of Greensboro reports 18-year-old D’Angelo Matthews pleaded guilty Tuesday in Guilford County Superior Court to second-degree murder and robbery with a dangerous weapon. Matthews was sentenced to two consecutive prison terms equaling a minimum of 25 years in prison, and he received credit for time served in jail since August 2015.
Chief Assistant District Attorney Howard Neumann said investigators and medical examiners determined that Matthews and another teenager sprayed Brown with a fire extinguisher, causing him to fall to the ground.
Neumann said at least one of the two teenagers then struck Larry Eugene Brown repeatedly in the head with fire extinguishers.
