RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Damek Tomscha homered and singled, scoring a couple of runs while also driving home two as the Reading Fightin Phils topped the Richmond Flying Squirrels 8-1 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday.

Malquin Canelo doubled and singled, also stealing a base for Reading.

Up 2-1, the Fightin Phils added to their lead in the fourth inning when Tomscha hit a two-run home run.

The Fightin Phils later added three runs in the sixth and one in the seventh to finish off the blowout.

Reading right-hander Drew Anderson (9-4) picked up a quality start and the win after allowing one run on just two hits over six innings. Opposing starter Dan Slania (3-3) took the loss in the Eastern League game after allowing four runs and seven hits over five innings.

Reading improved to 9-2 against Richmond this season.
