BELCROSS – A 32-year-old Tampa, Florida, area man remains in serious condition at a Virginia hospital nearly a week after his motorcycle collided with a vehicle in Camden County.
According to the N.C. Highway Patrol, Joseph Moncalieri was traveling west on U.S. Highway 158 Wednesday afternoon when his 1975 Honda motorcycle collided in Belcross with a 2003 Volkswagen heading east.
Ashley Barner, 25, of the 700 block of Bunnells Ave., Elizabeth City, was attempting a left turn from U.S. 158 into a driveway when the collision occurred, the patrol said. The impact caused Moncalieri to be ejected from his motorcycle onto the roadway.
Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services transported Moncalieri, who was suffering from severe chest injuries, from the scene to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center before he was airlifted to the Norfolk hospital.
Barner was not injured in the accident. She was cited for failure to yield the right of way, the patrol said.
A Sentara spokesman confirmed Moncalieri's condition Monday afternoon.
