The new location for Captain D’s seafood restaurant on North Road Street continues to take shape, but when the restaurant chain plans to open the site — and close its current restaurant at Southgate Mall — remains unknown.

“We have no information to share at this time,” Samantha Russo, a representative of Fish Consulting, which handles public relations for the Tennessee-based Captain D’s chain, said in an email on Friday.

Crews have been working busily in recent days to transform the North Road Street site, formerly an Arby’s restaurant before it closed in late September 2014, into a Captain D’s restaurant. The North Street site now features the chain’s new beach design and this past weekend, the only traces of the building’s former occupant were a large Arby roadside sign and the Arby entrance and exit signs.

A message on the marquee on the sign at Captain D’s current site at Southgate Mall states the restaurant is hiring additional staff for the new site on North Road Street.

Russo announced in late August that Captain D’s would be leaving the Southgate Mall site for the former Arby’s restaurant building in 1200 block of North Road, at the corner of Jennings Drive.

The Captain D’s chain, which is based in Nashville, dates back to 1969 and has grown to more than 500 locations. It’s most recent restaurant opened on Thursday in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
