CURRITUCK — Two Currituck men were treated at Virginia hospitals last weekend following a dispute that allegedly involved one man shooting the other who had attacked him with a hammer.
Currituck Chief Deputy Matt Beickert said deputies received a call about 8 p.m. Sunday that a man in the Wedgewood Lakes subdivision was being assaulted with a hammer by his stepson.
As deputies were en route to the man’s residence, they learned the stepfather had shot his stepson, Beickert said.
When deputies arrived, they found the stepson with a single gunshot wound to the stomach and sitting on the porch outside the house. Inside, they found the man’s stepfather, suffering from several wounds from the hammer attack.
Beickert said the stepfather was transported to Chesapeake Regional Hospital. The stepson was transported to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, he said.
Beickert didn’t release the men’s names, but identified the stepfather as 65 and the stepson as 49.
Charges are pending in the incident, Beickert said.
Elm Circle is in an area just off Tulls Creek Road, just west of Currituck Sound and approximately two miles northwest of the Currituck County judicial complex.
