EDENTON — Local and state law enforcement agencies are investigating after a man was shot to death in Edenton late Wednesday night.
Ronald Taylor, 51, of the 300 block of Church St., Edenton, died at Vidant Chowan Hospital after suffering multiple gunshot wounds, police Chief Jay Fortenbury said in a press release Thursday.
No arrests have been made in Taylor’s shooting, Fortenbury said.
Police found Taylor lying on the sidewalk in front of a residence at 215 E. Church Street about 11:20 p.m. Wednesday, Fortenbury said. Taylor was unresponsive and appeared to have been shot multiple times, he said.
Officers initiated CPR before Taylor was transported to Vidant Chowan, where he later died from his injuries, Fortenbury said.
Taylor’s shooting does not appear to have been a random act, and he may have known his assailant, the police chief said.
Officers collected multiple shell casings at the scene. The Elizabeth City Police Department also provided a K9 unit, but no suspects were located.
The State Bureau of Investigation is assisting the investigation, Fortenbury said.
Anyone with additional information is asked to call Sgt. Laura Wilkins of the Edenton Police Department at 482-5144. All information will be kept confidential, Fortenbury said.
