HERTFORD — The patient killed in last week’s crash of a medical helicopter in Perquimans County has been identified as Mary Bartlett of Elizabeth City.

Perquimans County Sheriff Shelby White confirmed Tuesday that Bartlett, 70, was aboard the Duke Life Flight helicopter that crashed in a field near Belvidere shortly before noon Friday.

All four people aboard the helicopter, including Bartlett, the pilot and two Duke Life Flight nurses, were killed in the crash.

Several news sources report that Bartlett was aboard the helicopter because she was seeking treatment at Duke University Hospital for complications from two surgeries related to her pancreatic cancer.

White said he had no other information about Bartlett.

The National Transportation Safety Board continues to investigate the cause of the helicopter crash. An NTSB spokesman said this week the agency’s investigation could take a year to complete.
