Search continues for missing Currituck woman

CURRITUCK – The Currituck County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help finding a woman who’s believed to be suffering from dementia.
Brenda Hoover Velazquez, who is approximately 70 years old, was last seen about 3:30 p.m. Sunday in the Grandy area, walking south near Caratoke Highway after she walked away from an address on Sunny Lane off Poplar Branch Road.
Sheriff Susan Johnson said Monday her office received a couple of calls from people who may have seen Velazquez near the McDonald’s in Grandy between 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Velazquez is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 135 pounds, has red hair with graying roots and wears black-rimmed eyeglasses. She was last known to be wearing a red long-sleeved sweatshirt, gray slacks and black tennis shoes.
