SHILOH — Authorities are investigating a fire Tuesday morning that caused heavy damage to a residence in the Old Trap area of southern Camden County.

Elizabeth City Fire Marshal Chris Carver said South Camden volunteer firefighters were dispatched to a reported fire in the 100 block of One Mill Road shortly before 9 a.m. When they arrived, smoke was coming from the house, he said.

Carver said volunteer firefighters from Crawford and South Mills also responded as did the Elizabeth City Fire Department, which dispatched a tanker truck.

The fire damaged the interior and attic of the home, he said. A family of three that occupied the house was not harmed in the fire and are staying with relatives, he said.

While the fire is still under investigation, Carver said the cause doesn't appear to be suspicious in nature.
