Elizabeth City police are investigating after two people, one armed with a machete, robbed a local motel early Monday.

The two masked robbers entered the Quality Inn in the 500 block of South Hughes Boulevard at 4:10 a.m. Monday, according to a police report.

The report doesn’t state how much money was taken, but it notes one of the robbers brandished a machete. Both suspects fled in a stolen vehicle.

Police spokesman Darrell Felton declined to release further information about the robbery on Tuesday, only saying the incident remains under investigation.
