Elizabeth City police have arrested a local man wanted in connection with the robbery and shooting of a city man earlier this week.
Damon Shy’quay Williams, 23, of the 600 block of Massachusetts Ave., Elizabeth City, was arrested Thursday for the robbery and shooting on Monday of Jordan Baeza, 27, of the 100 block of Raintree Run, a police press release states.
According to police, Williams is accused of shooting Baeza near his residence shortly before 8 p.m. Monday. Baeza, who suffered a gunshot to the back, was first driven by a friend to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center and later airlifted by helicopter to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, police said.
A Sentara spokesman listed Baeza's condition as critical on Tuesday. His condition has been changed to serious, a spokesman said Thursday.
Williams is charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, armed robbery and first-degree kidnapping.
Williams was transported to Albemarle District Jail where he was being held Thursday in lieu of a $250,000 secured bond. His first appearance in Pasquotank District Court is set for Monday, according to police.
