A 2-year-old boy who drowned in a residential swimming pool more than nine months ago had been known to meander away, state and Pasquotank County medical officials state in recently released documents.
The child died on March 15 as a result of entering the pool, located off Davis Road, and becoming submersed in the water, the N.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said.
The child’s parents realized he was missing shortly before 2 p.m. and, after an unsuccessful search, they called Central Communications, local and state medical documents said.
When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they found the child in the above-ground pool. Emergency medical personnel tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate him while transporting him to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center.
The medical documents indicate the child crawled out of his sister’s bedroom window prior to the incident. The documents state the pool was dirty and contained algae, but wasn’t covered and lacked a gate or a locking system.
