CAMDEN — A Virginia Beach police officer whose foot was grazed by a bullet in a shooting accident at the Academi private security services firm this week is doing OK, a spokeswoman for the Virginia Beach Department said Friday.

Shift Sgt. Will Dean was attempting to pull his 9-mm service weapon out to shoot at a target Tuesday afternoon when the firearm accidentally discharged, sending the bullet through his holster and grazing his foot, a Camden Sheriff's Office's incident report states.

Emergency medical services personnel were called to Academi, which is off Puddin Ridge Road, but Dean, 48, wasn't transported to any hospital, the report states.

A Virginia Beach police spokeswoman said Friday that Dean was back at work the morning following the incident.
