Elizabeth City police say a man was treated for a gunshot wound at the hospital following a shooting incident at an apartment complex early Tuesday morning.
Jarontae Antonio Chamblee, 24, was treated at Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his left calf and upper thigh and then released, Barbara Morgan, criminal intelligence officer for the Elizabeth City Police Department, said Tuesday evening.
Morgan said someone drove Chamblee to the hospital following a shooting incident at the Woodstock I Apartments off Walker Avenue.
According to Morgan, police responded to a report of gunshots in the Woodstock area about 1:05 a.m. Tuesday.
When officers arrived, they saw a white car speeding off, she said. After advising other police units to be on the lookout for the vehicle, officers canvassed the area and found shell casings on the sidewalk, she said.
Two police officers later noticed a white car with its flashers on pulling into the parking lot at Sentara Albemarle, Morgan said. The officers approached the vehicle and found Chamblee in it, she said.
No suspects have been identified in the shooting and police are not releasing Chamblee’s address for safety reasons, Morgan said.
Anyone with information about the incident is urged to phone police at 335-4321 or the Crime Line at 335-5555.
All information received remains anonymous and will be held in confidence, Morgan said.
