The Elizabeth City Police Department says a pedestrian was struck and killed while crossing the roadway near Elizabeth City State University Saturday night.

Police confirmed Sunday afternoon that the victim was Victoria Bradsher-Daniels.

A statement from the department released early Sunday says the pedestrian was struck near the intersection of Halstead Boulevard and Herrington Road by a vehicle traveling east on Halstead at 8:47 p.m. Saturday but included no other details.

The release did not contain any information about the motorist or the vehicle involved in the incident.

Officer Lamont Butts, a spokesman for the police department, declined to release any further information about the incident on Sunday, citing the ongoing police investigation.

As late as 10:30 Sunday night police were seen still at the scene investigating. Both eastbound lanes of Halstead Boulevard were closed to traffic in the vicinity of the accident.

A post on the Elizabeth City State University Facebook page Sunday indicated Bradsher-Daniels was an alumna of the university and expressed sadness at the loss.
