Vigil Wednesday honoring ECSU alum

Elizabeth City State University is holding a candlelight vigil Wednesday in memory of the ECSU graduate killed in a pedestrian accident Saturday night near Viking Village.

Police confirmed Sunday that Victoria Jalissa Bradsher-Daniels was killed in the accident. She was struck and killed while crossing the road near the intersection of Halstead Boulevard and Herrington Road, according to police.

The candlelight vigil in memory of Bradsher-Daniels is scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday at the Clock Tower on the promenade. There will be candles for attendees to light in silence and a balloon release in honor of her memory.

Attendees also may wear blue ribbons to honor her memory.

Bradsher-Daniels came to ECSU from Roxboro and was a 2012 graduate with a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice. She worked as a child support officer in the Raleigh-Durham area.

The candlelight vigil is sponsored by ECSU’s Office of Alumni Relations and Engagement, in collaboration with the Division of Student Affairs, the Counseling and Testing Center, the Division of Student Engagement and the ECSU National Alumni Association.

Police said the vehicle was traveling east on Halstead Boulevard and the accident occurred around 8:45 p.m. Saturday, according to police.

The police have not provided any information about the motorist or the vehicle involved in the incident or whether charges have been or will be charged.
