At least two persons were transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment of gunshots after they were found near a busy Elizabeth City intersection Thursday afternoon.
Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services officials said they dispatched an ambulance to the area of South Hughes Boulevard and Halstead Boulevard Extended at 1:33 p.m. They transported two persons to the hospital for what they described as non-life threatening injuries.
No other information about the gunshot victims was immediately available. Elizabeth City police officials could not be immediately reached.
The incident did spur Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools officials to place two schools in the vicinity on temporary lockdown.
Both Northeastern High School and Central Elementary School were placed on lockdown upon the advice of local emergency management officials following a report of shots fired at a nearby business, a school spokeswoman said.
The lockdown at each school was lifted at approximately 2:10 p.m., the school spokeswoman said.
