A man killed Saturday evening in the southern end of the county appeared to have died from gunshot wounds, the Pasquotank sheriff said Sunday.
However, Sheriff Randy Cartwright declined to identify the man or release his age or address, saying the shooting victim has multiple addresses investigators are still checking out.
Cartwright said Saturday his office is investigating the man’s death as a homicide.
The man was found on Esclip Road about half a mile north of Dry Ridge Road, about 15 miles south of Elizabeth City. Law enforcement radio traffic indicated the man’s shooting was reported to law enforcement just before 7 p.m. Saturday.
Cartwright said an autopsy is scheduled to be performed on the shooting victim in Greenville on Monday. He also said the State Bureau of Investigation and the Dare County Sheriff’s Office are assisting in the case.
