CAMDEN — Camden voters will have a race for school board this fall.
Incumbent Jason Banks filed Thursday for a second term, becoming the fourth candidate to file for the three open seats on the board this fall.
Banks, a dentist with a practice in Elizabeth City, joins fellow incumbent board member Sissy Aydlett and political newcomers Roger Morgan and Chris Purcell, who already filed. Camden voters will elect the top three vote-getters in the race in the November election.
Banks said Thursday he would like to remain on the board as the school district continues moving in a positive direction.
“I feel like we have really made some productive strides for our school system as a board,” Banks said. “I am very thankful for the opportunity to serve our students and community. It is exciting to see how much potential our system has and gratifying to see how well we are already excelling.”
In Chowan County, candidates who have filed for seats on the Edenton-Chowan Board of Education are Nancy Heiniger and Gil Burroughs in District 3; Jean Harrell Bunch in District 1; Maxine Mason and George A. Nelson for the at-large seat; and Ricky Browder in District 2.
Filing for school board will continue in Camden through July 31. Filing for school board in Chowan ends July 27.
