CAMDEN – A former Principal of the Year for the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools has been tapped as the new principal at Camden Middle School.

LeVar Mizelle, a former principal at River Road Middle School who worked this past year as an assistant principal at Pasquotank County High School, will be principal at CMS when the new school year starts next month.

Camden County Schools Superintendent Joe Ferrell said Mizelle's experience as a middle school principal was one of the things that led him to conclude Mizelle would be a good fit for the CMS post.

“We’re real excited about him,” Ferrell said of Mizelle. “We think he’s going to be a good fit.”

Mizelle's first teaching job was at River Road Middle School as a sixth-grade teacher. After teaching sixth grade for seven years Mizelle served as assistant principal at River Road for three years and then was principal of Weeksville Elementary School for two years.

From 2012-17 Mizelle was principal at River Road Middle. He was named ECPPS Principal of the Year in 2014.

In 2017 Mizelle moved to Pasquotank County High School as an assistant principal as River Road Middle School began implementing the restart model of school reform and brought in Adrian Fonville as principal.

Mizelle is a graduate of Elizabeth City State University.
