EDENTON — A Chowan County resident was found deceased after he was reported overdue from a boating trip, Friday. The man’s cause of death has not been determined.
Fleetwood L. "Buddy" Harrell Jr., 57, was found deceased around 10:30 p.m. Friday after he was earlier reported overdue from a boating trip around 7:30 p.m.
Harrell’s 24-foot open motorboat was found by a civilian boater who was assisting in the search. The boat was towed in by N.C. Wildlife Enforcement officers, according to Capt. Mark Rich of N.C. Wildlife Resources Enforcement.
The boat was found on the Chowan River about four miles north of the Chowan River Bridge, Rich said.
Harrell's cause of death had not been determined as of late Sunday. Rich said officers hoped to get information on cause of death from the N.C. Medical Examiner's Office on Monday.
Harrell was a resident of Yellow Hammer Road and a lifelong resident of Chowan County.
In addition to N.C. Wildlife Resources Enforcement, the Chowan County Sheriff’s Office and Chowan County Emergency Management assisted with the emergency response Friday.
