An Elizabeth City dentist will be relocating her office into a large new building on U.S. Highway 17 South once it’s construction is complete.
Dr. Alison Boone's future office complex is taking shape just off U.S. 17 at Mill End Court. Currently Boone’s office is located at Winchester Station in the 900 block of Halstead Boulevard.
Rick Godfrey, owner of Kill Devil Hills-based Godfrey Construction and the contractor on Boone’s project, said construction started approximately three months ago and should be finished in about three months.
Godfrey said that in addition to Boone's dental office, the building has enough room for several tenants.
City Manager Rich Olson told city councilors and the mayor in May that Boone's dental office will be about 4,644 square feet, enough for 12 treatment areas. He said the building will also have two additional spaces of 1,750 square feet each.
Boone couldn't be reached for this story, but in a 2012 story in The Daily Advance, she said part of the reason she was moving her practice, then on the Outer Banks, to Elizabeth City was because she had grown up in Hertford. Boone’s father, Dr. Jack Boone, retired in 2011 after practicing dentistry in Hertford for 30 years.
Boone said at the time she picked Winchester Station for her office in part because of its proximity to Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City.
Boone earned an undergraduate degree in biochemistry from East Carolina University in 2000. She graduated from dental school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2004.
Boone completed her residency at Fort Bragg and, after working a short time for private dentists in Fayetteville, decided to put up her own shingle in Kitty Hawk.
