CAMDEN — The Camden County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 7-year-old girl Monday morning in the Shiloh area.
Sheriff Kevin Jones confirmed Tuesday that the child’s death is under investigation, but he referred other questions about the incident to Sgt. Brandon Henderson.
Henderson said the child was not breathing when Pasquotank-Camden Emergency Medical Services personnel arrived at a residence in the 700 block of Sandy Hook Road in Shiloh after being dispatched about 8:10 a.m.
Henderson said first responders administered CPR as deputies were on the way to the scene. However, the girl had died by the time deputies arrived, he said.
The Camden Sheriff’s Office is not releasing the name of the child or her parents at this time but expects to release additional information in the matter, Henderson said.
Henderson also declined to discuss what might have led to the child’s death, citing the ongoing investigation.
“Any time a child dies we take it very seriously and we want to make sure it is investigated thoroughly,” Henderson said. “We want to wait to release any information until we are sure that we have completed a thorough investigation.”
