95 to receive degrees at ECSU

Elizabeth City State University will present diplomas to approximately 95 graduates Saturday during its annual fall commencement ceremony.

The ceremony begins at 10 a.m. at the R.L. Vaughan Center.

This year’s commencement speaker is Venessa Harrison, who was president of AT&T North Carolina from 2013 until this year. In that role she oversaw AT&T’s operations and 6,100 employees who work in the state. Harrison became president of AT&T Georgia on Dec. 1, according to statements on AT&T’s North Carolina and Georgia webpages.

Harrison, a native of Raleigh, has been in the telecommunications industry for nearly 40 years, starting in 1979 as a telephone operator and working her way up to her current position as s state executive.

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of North Carolina A&T State University.
