EDENTON — Edenton police recently took a 14-year-old into custody for disorderly conduct after the teen allegedly assaulted police officers.
According to an Edenton police incident report, Cpl. Russell James Michael Jr. and Patrolman Brian A. Adams responded to a fight in the 100 block of Blades Circle, Edenton, on Jan. 1 at 3:33 p.m.
While there, Michael and Adams encountered at 14-year-old juvenile being disorderly, according to Edenton police Chief Henry King.
A police report on the incident states the juvenile assaulted the officers.
King noted that under the law, assault on a government official can range from pushing a finger into an officer’s chest to an attack that results to a trip to the hospital. The report doesn’t indicate whether the officers were injured.
“Officers recognized the fact that this was a juvenile and were able to take the appropriate action to get the juvenile into custody,” King said in an email. He did not elaborate.
The juvenile’s case has been referred to juvenile court counselor.
