Elizabeth City police have arrested a Wake County man they say tried to flee the scene following a one-vehicle car accident on Friday.

Herman Felton Jr., 49, of the 600 block of Landing View Drive, Wendell, was charged with careless and reckless driving following the accident at the intersection of Roanoke Avenue and Perry Street, Sgt. Latoya K. Flanigan said in a press release.

According to Flanigan, Felton’s 2016 Nissan 370Z Base Tour vehicle was headed east on Roanoke Avenue about 1:14 p.m. when he over-corrected and lost control, causing the vehicle to strike nearby trees.

Flanigan said Felton got out of the vehicle and fled the scene but was immediately apprehended by police.

A passenger in the vehicle, Nicole Ferrell, 29, of the 100 block of John Lloyd Road, Point Harbor, was transported to Sentara Albemarle Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries and later released, Flanigan said.

Additional charges are pending in the incident, Flanigan said.
