EDENTON — Edenton police are investigating the death of a man they say was a homicide victim.

Police Chief Henry King said Thursday that officers responded to an incident near North Granville and West Carteret streets about 3:17 p.m.

When they arrived, they found Dwight Coston, 35, who had been critically injured, King said.

Coston was transported to Vidant-Chowan Hospital in Edenton where he later died, King said.

King said Coston's death is being investigated as a homicide. He declined to comment, however, on how Coston died, saying he wanted to wait for the results of an autopsy first.

King said agents with the State Bureau of Investigation are working with Edenton police on the probe into Coston’s death. He asked that anyone who may have witnessed the incident that led to Coston’s death to contact Special Agent Norman at 919-662-4500 or him at 482-9890.
