CURRITUCK — A Philadelphia man is facing a felony statutory rape charge in Currituck County for having sex with a 13-year-old more than five years ago, documents state.
Tavias Dynell Harmon, 23, of the 8200 block of Williams Avenue, was arrested Thursday, Feb. 7, and charged with one felony count of rape, according to a Currituck County Sheriff’s Office arrest report.
A grand jury returned an indictment on Dec. 17 charging Harmon with statutory rape of a person either age 13, 14 or 15. That same day, Ray Matusko, clerk of Superior Court for Currituck County, signed an order for Harmon’s arrest.
According to the indictment, Harmon “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously” had sex with a person 13 years old at the time of the alleged offense. The indictment states the alleged offense happened between June 1, 2013 and Sept. 1, 2013.
Following his arrest on Feb. 7, Harmon was confined at the Currituck County Detention Center in lieu of a $40,000 secured bond. He was released later that day after posting bail.
No date has been set for Harmon to appear in Superior Court.
