A man charged with felony accessory is suspected of helping his daughter cover up a near-fatal assault on her boyfriend, police say.

Clarence Ray Bundy Jr., 46, and his daughter, Hannah Renee Bundy, 21, both of the 1100 block of Lynch’s Corner Road in Elizabeth City, were arrested Wednesday, March 13, according to Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office arrest reports.

Hannah Bundy was charged with one felony count each of assault with intent to kill causing serious injury, common law obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit a felony, arrest reports state.

Clarence Bundy was charged with one felony count each of accessory after the fact, common law obstruction of justice and conspiracy to commit a felony, the reports state.

The Pasquotank Sheriff’s Office served only as the arresting agency; the offenses occurred in Washington County, according to the reports. Both were released after posting secured bonds and are awaiting their first District Court appearance in Plymouth on April 18.

The investigating officer, Detective Frank Mitchell of the Plymouth Police Department, discussed the case briefly on Friday. According to Mitchell, Hannah Bundy was with her boyfriend, who suffered a head injury so severe he was not expected to survive. That was on Jan. 20, Mitchell said. She was charged after police began to suspect she was responsible for his head injury.

“She gave us a story that did not corroborate with evidence we had,” Mitchell said.

Mitchell said Clarence Bundy is suspected of having helped his daughter hide or dispose of the instrument used in the assault.
