Sheriff: Student had gun at school

A 16-year-old Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools student is facing felony charges after he was found with a handgun in his possession on school property, according to the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office.
Jamarion Nycir Taylor, 16, of the 1500 block of Emerald Lakes Circle, Elizabeth City, was arrested Wednesday, March 13, and charged with several offenses while on campus at H.L. Trigg Community School, according to the release.
Three of the felony charges involve a firearm. According to the sheriff’s office, Taylor is charged with possession of a firearm on educational property, possession of a firearm with an altered or removed serial number, and possession of a stolen firearm.
Taylor also is charged with one felony count of possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana. He also faces one misdemeanor count each of simple assault and resisting, delaying or obstructing an officer.
According to the press release, Taylor was arrested following a fight at school.
During their investigation of the fight, school personnel and the school resource officer discovered in Taylor’s coat a handgun, ammunition, a plastic pill bottle containing marijuana and digital scales, the release states.
Taylor was removed from school property without incident and confined at Albemarle District Jail in lieu of a $4,000 secured bond, according to the sheriff’s office.
