A portion of the southbound lane of Water Street in Elizabeth City will be closed for about five hours on Friday to accommodate the Weatherly Lofts renovation project.

The southbound lane of Water Street between Elizabeth Street and Colonial Avenue will be closed from 9 a.m. to approximately 2 p.m., Elizabeth City Downtown Inc. Executive Director Deborah Malenfant said Thursday. The lane is being closed so that materials for the renovation project can be delivered and placed on the roof of the Weatherly Building, she said.

As was the case when the lane was closed before, no left turns will be allowed onto Water Street from the Camden Causeway Bridge, and no right turns will be allowed from Elizabeth Street onto Water Street.

Weatherly Lofts will be a 44-unit, upscale apartment complex that will cost around $4.5 million to build, according to ECDI and project developer James Flanigan, of JD Lewis Construction Management.
