While a tornado warning was issued during Monday night’s thunderstorm, officials say there was no tornado activity in the area.
The National Weather Service issued a tornado warning shortly before 8:30 Monday evening. The warning affected parts of Pasquotank, Camden and Currituck counties and ended at 9 p.m.
Christy Saunders, the emergency management coordinator for Pasquotank and Camden counties, said Tuesday that the weather service had not reported any funnel clouds forming or tornadoes touching down in the area Monday night.
The thunderstorm caused little damage, she said. Lightning struck a utility pole in the Berea Church Road area in Pasquotank County, which caused a localized outage, she said. Otherwise, she had no reports of more damage.
A spokesman at the National Weather Service also said Tuesday afternoon that none of the service’s area weather spotters had reported a tornado or signs of a tornado.
