Area to honor fallen Monday

On this Memorial Day weekend, northeastern North Carolinians have many opportunities to honor the military service members who died in the line of duty.
Among the Memorial Day ceremonies planned across the Albemarle are below. Notably, Camden already held a Memorial Day-related event, a flag ceremony, on Friday.
Elizabeth City/Pasquotank County
11 a.m.: Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6060 will hold a ceremony at New Hollywood Cemetery. Refreshments will be served after.
1 p.m.: The Chief Petty Officers and Coast Guard Enlisted Officers associations will hold a ceremony at Westlawn Cemetery. Attendees who have a veteran buried in Westlawn are invited to lay a wreath. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held at the Chief Petty Officers Association building at 514 Cardwell Street.
11 a.m.: American Legion Posts 126 and 362 will hold a ceremony outside the Perquimans County Courthouse in Hertford. In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be inside the Perquimans County Recreation Center. Retired Marine Corps Chief Warrant Officer Phil Grasty will be the featured speaker.
11 a.m.: American Legion Post 40 will hold a ceremony at the veterans’ memorial at the intersection of Court and East Queen streets. The featured speaker will be Air Force veteran and state Rep. Ed Goodwin, R-Chowan.
11 a.m.: American Legion Post 288 will hold a ceremony at Veterans Park in Coinjock.
