Sanders repays $3K to ECPPS
From staff reports

A former interim superintendent of the Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools and one-time candidate for the permanent superintendent's job reimbursed the school district $3,000, apparently for some kind of over-payment by ECPPS.
Joanne Sanders reimbursed the money to ECPPS, the school district has confirmed.
The district did not respond to questions about why Sanders made the reimbursement.
Sanders could not be reached for comment on the repayment.
Sanders became interim superintendent of ECPPS after the resignation of Larry Cartner last year.
She was a candidate for superintendent and had strong support in the community, especially among ECPPS faculty and staff, as a candidate for that position.
But Sanders resigned from ECPPS and withdrew from consideration as a candidate for superintendent in April, a decision she said at the time was “solely for personal reasons” and unrelated to the school board’s ongoing search for a new superintendent. She also confirmed at that time that she had applied for the position.
Rhonda James-Davis was named interim superintendent to succeed Sanders. The ECPPS Board of education has since named Catherine Edmonds — currently superintendent of the Bertie County Schools — as ECPPS superintendent. She reports to work in ECPPS on July 1.
